cps-logoEvery year the screen printing industry goes through huge amounts of spray tack. Not all of it ends up being used in the production process itself, with much being wasted, coating everything around from machine parts to the operator’s lungs. Lint will also stick to it, creating potential fire hazards, as well as blocking motors, cooling fans and other essential components.

High productivity and more stringent H&S requirements have become bywords for modern printing processes, so any improvement in conventional practices, however small, must bring tangible rewards.

The water-based Low Tack Adhesive (LTA) from CPS is one of such improvements, being an odourless and hazard label-free alternative to spray tack. With no overspray, no adhesive ends up being wasted, resulting in less maintenance downtime, as well as a much more pleasant working environment.

Using the CPS LTA is simplicity in itself. Ideally, CPS LTA should be poured in a paint tray and applied using a sponge roller directly to the platen or paper, coating it with a thin and uniform layer. Unlike spray tack, CPS LTA can be safely dried under a flash dryer as it contains no flammable components.

Another key advantage of CPS LTA over spray tack is longevity and the ability to extend working life simply by spraying with water (or a 1:10 dilution of LTA in water). The tack
level should be checked during printing operations, periodically applying, if necessary, a fine water spray to extend the product’s life. It is possible, following this procedure, to print up to 1,000 shirts in a single application, with tremendous savings over conventional adhesives. In fact, one application of LTA can often outlast several cans of spray tack.

Alan Dollan, Managing Director of Action Leisurewear, a long established textile printer, says, “We are absolutely delighted with the CPS Low Tack adhesive. It’s a lot better than conventional products; there is no overspray, no unpleasant odours and it’s easily applied with a roller (we also flash dry it). Above all, LTA is economical too, as I can run up to 1,000 garments with one single application. Pallet paper will also last much longer, squeezing up 10,000 items in one go. CPS Low Tack is a truly outstanding product, much loved by our production team, and by our accountant!”

The CPS Low Tack Adhesive is a common sense, easy to use solution that brings tangible advantages to textile printing operations, with an appeal that goes way beyond its lower initial cost.
