The inaugural edition of Screen Print Innovations (SPI) – the new trade show dedicated exclusively to screen printing – was held from 3-5 June 2025 at Messe Essen and delivered a resounding success. Defying the typical uncertainty that surrounds first-time events, SPI proved to be a bold showcase of the strength and ongoing evolution of screen printing technology across a range of industries.
Nearly 1,000 professionals from 50 countries attended the premiere, reuniting the global screen printing community under one roof. From hardware manufacturers and ink formulators to integrators, value-added resellers, and brand owners, the show attracted a diverse cross-section of attendees. All came to gain insight into how screen printing continues to drive innovation in sectors such as automotive, printed electronics, luxury packaging, and healthcare.
Organised by the European Specialist Printing Manufacturers Association (ESMA), SPI positioned itself as a unique platform that connects suppliers, system developers, and end users across diverse applications—helping shape the future of screen printing.
“Today confirms that focused, niche events are replacing mega trade shows – that targeted audiences create community rather than anonymity,” said Jon Bultemeyer and Robin McMillan, representing the organisers and the ESMA Board during the opening speech. “In 2025, screen technology is not just surviving, but thriving – delivering solutions in printed electronics, touch screens, fuel cells, antennas, and more.”
The enthusiasm was echoed by attendees and exhibitors alike:
“Only a few exhibitions have truly stood out to me over the years – our first international appearance at FESPA in 2017, our debut in printed electronics at LOPEC in 2022, and now SPI 2025. Each of these events marked a turning point for INO and SPI was no exception,” said Blaž Mur, CEO of print system manufacturer INO.
“Attending the show gave me a unique perspective on the latest trends and technologies,” added Aad van der Spuij from Henkel.
“Screen printing has a new home base!” exclaimed Stefan Zäh from Pröll.
A major highlight of SPI’s debut was the Innovation Theatre, a complimentary presentation forum that offered real-world case studies and cutting-edge applications – from smart textiles and transparent antennas to security printing and hydrogen fuel cell components. Sessions consistently drew packed audiences eager to engage with leading minds in screen printing and functional print technology.
Looking ahead, organisers anticipate SPI’s return in June 2027. More details will be announced soon at spi-europe.com.
In the meantime, ESMA’s next major industry gathering is the 4th edition of Industrial Print Integration – Europe’s biggest conference dedicated to industrial printing applications. The event takes place on 12–13 November 2025 at the Crowne Plaza Düsseldorf–Neuss, featuring multiple technical tracks and unparalleled networking opportunities. Learn more at ipi-conference.com.
