ESMA Academy 2017 Theory blocks18 participants took part in the very first edition of ESMA Academy. The inaugural course was dedicated to industrial digital printing and took place on 6-9 November 2017 at Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation in Stuttgart.
The cooperation between ESMA, Fraunhofer IPA and Hochschule der Medien (Stuttgart Media University) resulted in a comprehensive course curriculum with a good balance between theory and practice. Academy participants praised the combination and diversity of the programme which provided an overview of both technologies and applications. Theory blocks included piezo inkjet, inks and substrates, mechatronics and electronics of the printing systems, as well as processes other than piezo. Practical sessions were held at work stations in the laboratories of Fraunhofer IPA and included ink characterisation, determination of print parameters, drying and cleaning mechanisms, mechanics, fluidics and electronics, quality evaluation and colour management. After the successful completion of the course, each attendee received a certificate.
ESMA Academy 2017 Exercises at work stationsESMA Academy “Industrieller Digitaldruck” met with a very positive feedback, stressing the valuable content and competences of the tutors: Prof. Stefan Güttler from Hochschule der Medien, Jessica Günthel and Oliver Refle from Fraunhofer IPA, Jochen Christiaens and Oliver Kammann from the ESMA Expert Team. Building on that first experience, ESMA is already planning next academy courses for 2018. Please follow www.esma.com/academy for further updates.
