EU Green Deal

The EU Green Deal is a comprehensive plan by the European Union to make the continent's economy sustainable. It aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Key objectives include increasing renewable energy use, promoting energy efficiency, and preserving biodiversity. The deal also focuses on creating green jobs and fostering innovation to support a cleaner, greener future for Europe. Specific regulatory tools include Digital Product Passport, Ecodesign for Sustainable Products, Extended Producer Responsibility, and others.

Why are chemicals regulated

Did you know that the REACH Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 on the registration, evaluation and authorisation (and restriction) of chemicals was introduced to address around 100,000 chemicals on the market that had not been properly evaluated? Regulators were responsible for evaluating chemicals, but the process was slow and unproductive. People at home and at work were being exposed to chemicals without understanding the hazards of these chemicals on themselves and the environment.

In-depth overview

An overview of chemical regulation will cover the following areas: Registration and control of chemicals through REACH processes, occupational health, consumer exposure, environmental pollution & disasters, along with environmental protection legislation, sustainability and waste. An overview of specific chemical legislation will include GHS, CLP, REACH, the Stockholm Convention and Transport Regulation. The European Green Deal and the Chemical Strategy for Sustainability will also be featured, along with a look at UK Regulation post-Brexit.

Who should attend

Most in our industry are impacted by chemical regulation. Regulations can be difficult to navigate, and it is not always clear who is impacted and why. The course looks at the history of chemical regulation, how it evolved and why, focusing on the legislation that impacts the print sector and associated industries. Delegates will achieve a sound understanding of sector-specific chemical regulation. It will be of interest to a wide variety of employees and interested parties, including top-level management responsible for ensuring the legislation is complied with.
