With the hot summer behind us, we are entering an intense period of educational events and industry shows. It all starts this week with the 5th Digital Textile Congress held in Ghent, Belgium and supported by ESMA. The Inkjet Conference, (TheIJC) will also celebrate its 5th anniversary this October and ESMA Academy will organise a course in English for the first time. As you can read below we are already looking towards 2019 and beyond, so make sure you save all the dates!

It’s just three weeks to go before TheIJC opens its doors for the 5th edition. With over 500 participants, it is the world’s leading platform for all those involved in inkjet engineering and chemistry. Three tracks and 61 technical presentations update the audience on the latest developments and technologies, whilst the networking area with 80 tabletops provides the environment to discuss projects with potential suppliers and partners. The conference takes place on 16-17 October 2018 at Crowne Plaza Düsseldorf.

Following increasing requests from the participants, the four-day course on the theoretical and practical aspects of the piezo inkjet process and related topics such as inks, curing and colour management, is now offered in English. Organisers from ESMA, Fraunhofer IPA and Hochschule der Medien (Stuttgart Media University) are building on the success of the two German editions which provided certified know-how to forty attendees from the DACH region. The course takes place on 5-8th November 2018 at the laboratories of Fraunhofer IPA in Stuttgart.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a critical substance for the printing industry. Many ESMA members will therefore be aware of the current issues associated with the new classification. Classification and labelling of the substance became a strong focus for industry and trade bodies, when a harmonised classification proposal for TiO2 was submitted to the European Chemical’s Agency (ECHA) from ANSES, the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (On behalf of the French Member State Competent Authority).
Elaine Campling, Member of ESMA HSEP Committee, provides an update on this important issue for members.

Several hundred thousand visitors are expected at the next drupa which takes place on 16-26th June 2020 at Messe Düsseldorf. Following a long-term partnership with the show organisers, as well as the expectations of our members, ESMA has reserved pavilion space in hall 3 (dedicated to screen and industrial printing) and in hall 6 (digital printing and printed electronics). The joint pavilion surface amounts to 600 sqm, to be divided into several islands. The first members have already booked their space.
