ESMA poll results of digital newsletter readers A small very successful online survey (20% respondents!) held by ESMA amongst you, our valid newsletter readers revealed some interesting results. The newsletter is a free subscription; the majority of readers, who are not all members, are manufacturers with an equal split between digital and screen. New applications seem to be picked up. Of all subjects covered in the newsletter, printed electronics and functional printing seem to be of the greatest interest to the readers. Other subjects that matter are apparently LFP, textile, glass but also interior decoration.

DRUPA Cube ESMA will organise one day of the DRUPA Cube on 13 May 2012: ‘Future of Print: Functional Printing/3D Printing’. Symposiums featuring up to five speakers will be conducted around midday (10:0 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.). ESMA will promote during this day Functional Printing produced with screen printing, the ESMA Screen City Pavilion and all activities of ESMA and its members. Drupa Cube 2012 will have a decidedly international flavour, i.e. all lectures are going to be simultaneously translated into English and/or German. In addition, international speakers, associations and media partners will be invited to participate in the drupa cube. Central theme of the presentations will be the prevailing trends and developments in the marketing space, driving the communicative effectiveness of the printed product—with technology all the while taking a backseat to application. |

Printing of EL and OLED for signage To compete with “online” advertisement, SME’s specialized in analog or digital printing have to diversify and broaden their horizon. One of the niche markets already existing but not generally known is the printing of electroluminescent (EL) advertisement. The inks used to print this are tuned such that the final product is illuminating, such that people are attracted in a new and flashy way. At this time, printing is done generally with screen printing but also digital printing can be used. As EL needs a high voltage (and is therefore not so efficient) a different but not yet established route can be the one of organic light emitting diodes (OLED). These products require a much lower voltage (3V) and can also be printed. |
